Is a four-card set valid in Yono Rummy?
Yes—use one natural card from each suit at the same rank.
Direct answer
Yes. A four-card set is valid in standard Indian Rummy when all four natural cards share one rank and each has a different suit. For example, 9♣-9♦-9♥-9♠ is valid. A duplicate such as two 9♣ cards makes the natural set invalid, even if the game uses two decks and both copies were dealt.
Read the rank first, then the four suits
The Joker lane is valid only when the room allows that Joker to substitute in a set. Check the displayed printed/wild Joker rule rather than assuming every star card behaves the same.
Why four is the natural maximum
A standard deck has four suits: Clubs, Diamonds, Hearts and Spades. Once one Nine from every suit appears in the group, the natural set has used all four suit identities. A fifth natural Nine must repeat a suit, so it cannot extend the same natural set under the common rule.
Multiple decks can produce duplicate Nines, but they increase the cards available, not the number of suits. The extra Nine may join another valid group or remain for discard; it does not create a fifth suit.
Four-card set checklist
- Count exactly four cards in the proposed set.
- Confirm every natural card has the same rank.
- Name the suits: Club, Diamond, Heart and Spade. No suit should repeat.
- If a Joker appears, identify whether it is printed or selected wild and read the room rule.
- Make sure none of the four physical cards is also used in a sequence.
- Remember that a valid set does not replace the required pure sequence and second sequence.

Can a natural set contain five cards?
Not under the common different-suit rule. Four suits make four the natural maximum for one rank.
Is 9♣-9♦-9♥-Joker always valid?
Only if the room recognises that Joker as a substitute in a set and the rest of the hand meets declaration rules.
